Bulbophyllum triaristella Schltr., from section Peltopus, is a miniature, intermediate-growing epiphyte found in the lower montane forests of New Guinea (endemic, 1000–1800 m). The highly reflective flowers, marked with reddish-purple stripes running the length of the sepals, do not open fully until late morning and then mostly close again at night, repeating this process for 4–5 days.
