A line of storms racing toward Chicago prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for most area counties Wednesday afternoon. The greatest severe weather threat is hail, wind and isolated tornadoes.

The announcement comes four days after the region was flooded by heavy rains and coincides with an ongoing heat alert.

On Wednesday at 7:47 p.m. the National Weather Service released an updated severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 8:30 p.m. The warning is for Johnson, Wyandotte and Jackson counties.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Vilas County by the National Weather Service in Green Bay at 8:33 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. Meteorologists warn of winds as strong as 60 mph.
