This was the logical next step after Schefter reported on April 21 that the Jets picked up Wilson's $16.8 million fifth-year option on his rookie deal for the 2026 campaign. They also did so with cornerback Sauce Gardner ($20.1 million) and defensive end Jermaine Johnson ($13.4 million), who, along with Wilson, were 2022 first-round draft picks.

Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension to stay in New York. Locking in a high-level talent at a valuable position is a win for the Jets. The timing of it makes it a steal.
