Netherlands great Vivianne Miedema’s 100th goal in international soccer has been key to a 3-0 win over debut-making Wales at the Women’s European Championship in Lucerne.
Wales' women were beaten 3-0 by Netherlands on their first ever appearance at a major tournament. According to UEFA figures, 3,800 Welsh fans made the trip to Lucerne to soak in the atmosphere, a figure seven times bigger than the previous record for travelling fans.
Wales' most-capped player Jess Fishlock says she "believes 100%," that her side can spring a surprise against France at Euro 2025 and has urged her teammates to put their 3-0 opening defeat to Netherlands "in the bin".
Wales make their major tournament debuts as they take on Netherlands at Euro 2025. The Welsh are the lowest-ranked team at the Euros and have been drawn in a heavyweight group alongside the Dutch, France and England. But Wales are determined to embrace the occasion and inspire a generation back home when they play the Netherlands in Lucerne.
