Writers of Superman movies, comics, and TV shows have spent decades grappling with how closely the hero should be tied to the U.S. government. Superman is from an alien world, but he was raised in Kansas as Clark Kent.
Critically and commercially "Wonder Woman 1984" was a big drop from the 2017 original, though on the financial side of things the film was held back by the COVID pandemic. The sequel was simultaneously released in theaters and on HBO Max.

Darkseid, ruler of the planet Apokolips, is a classic DC villain and often clashes with Superman. It’s fitting he’s at the center of DC K.O. as Williamson states K.O. is very much a “Superman story.” “It’s a very personal story wrapped in nine layers of candy exploding in your face,” as Snyder put it.

The next DCU movie is Craig Gillespie’s “Supergirl,” starring Milly Alcock (previously titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”). The film directly adapts King and Evely’s 2021-2022 comic book adventure starring Kara Zor-El, who starts the book by getting drunk on a planet with a Red Sun (which takes away her powers) to celebrate her 21st birthday.
