The travel ban – which covered Cape Cod and the South Coast of Massachusetts – is lifted as of noon on Tuesday, according to Governor Maura Healey. While the formal ban, which could have come with a $500 fine is lifted, people are still urged to stay off the road as there are still icy, snow covered and slushy conditions.
Residents should make storm preparations, including food, water, medications, batteries, flashlights and charged essential electronics. There is a strong possibility for power outages, and it may take several hours for the town’s generators to work, the post said.
Expect an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow to fall on Wednesday. The South Shore was already pelted with more than a foot of snow. In some places, like Kingston, there were reports of 36 inches.
Winter Storm Hernando has prompted all South Shore public school districts to cancel classes and activities for Tuesday.
