A Georgia father drowned after saving five people from a rip current at a beach in South Carolina, according to the Pawleys Island Police Department.

The department said that, sadly, Childers also got caught in the rip current, which led to his drowning. "He died trying to save others," the department said. Pawleys Island Mayor Brian Henry said on Monday that the town is now looking into recent drownings and ways to limit them from happening.
