Covered California, the state's Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace, estimates that up to 660,000 of the 2 million in the program will be stripped of coverage or drop out.

But public outcry over Medicaid cuts led Republicans to include a provision that will provide $10 billion annually to buttress rural hospitals over the next 5 years, or $50 billion in total. Many rural hospital advocates are wary that it won't be enough to cover the shortfall.
