San Diego State fell to Utah State 79-71 after playing most of the game without big man Gwath, who suffered a knee injury.

LOGAN, Utah – The scoreboard high above the visitors’ bench at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum was a concern. It said San Diego State lost 79-71 at Utah State on Saturday night after trailing by 14 early, mounting a prodigious comeback under trying circumstances, leading by four inside four minutes to go and then being outscored, gulp, 14-0.

The loss drops the Aztecs to 18-7 and 11-5 in conference play. SDSU was already sitting on the March Madness bubble. Losing the season series to USU, and perhaps losing Gwath for a few games, will certainly count against them on Selection Sunday (assuming they don't win the MWC Tournament and an automatic bid, of course).
