Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) on Tuesday called on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to resign over her response to the catastrophic flooding in Texas that caused a triple-digit death toll.

President Donald Trump dismissed reports that his homeland security chief waited days to sign off on desperately needed disaster relief in Texas based on the fact that she was the “first one” he saw on television.

Republicans, such as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, have largely responded to the crisis by demonstrating loyalty to Donald Trump and praising him for his federal aid. However, disgruntled citizens have called out Noem for her performative empathy toward the people in crisis.
