Jury deliberations are going into a third day in the trial of Raul Valle after the jury said they remain deadlocked on the murder charge filed against the man accused of killing 17-year-old Fairfield Prep student James “Jimmy” McGrath.

Valle, then 16, fatally stabbed 17-year-old James McGrath, 17, outside a house party in Shelton, but the jury found he acted in self-defense.

A day after telling the court they were deadlocked, the jury will continue deliberating on Tuesday in the trial of Raul Valle. The 20-year-old man is accused of stabbing and killing 17-year-old James “Jimmy” McGrath,

Nobody wants to do this thing twice,” one attorney not associated with the case said about a potential mistrial.

The six men and six women who make up the jury got the case just before 11 a.m. Monday after Judge Shari Murphy finished giving all her instructions.

The trial for a 20-year-old man who is accused stabbing and killing a Fairfield Prep student at a Shelton house party in 2022 is coming to an end and the state and defense will be presenting closing arguments on Thursday.

There are 990 cases in the criminal court where a high cash bond under the new legislation is in effect, according to the Judicial Branch.
